Normalize loudness to a podcast or streaming level

Two-pass EBU R128 loudness normalization: the file is measured first, then brought to the target you choose (−16 LUFS for podcasts, −14 for streaming platforms, −23 for broadcast) with a true-peak ceiling, the way the broadcast standard describes it. You see what the file measured and what it was set to.

How it works

  1. Choose a file and pick a target loudness and a true-peak limit.
  2. The file is measured (integrated loudness, true peak, loudness range), then the gain is applied with those measurements.
  3. Download. Video files keep their picture untouched; only the sound is re-encoded.

Questions

Which target?

−16 LUFS is the common podcast level (stereo; use −19 for mono if a platform asks). −14 LUFS is what music streaming platforms normalize to. −23 LUFS is the European broadcast standard. A true peak of −1 to −2 dBTP leaves headroom for lossy encoding.

Is this the same as peak normalization?

No. Peak normalization only moves the loudest sample to a level; two files can both peak at 0 dB and sound very different in loudness. EBU R128 measures perceived loudness over the whole file and brings that to the target, limiting peaks on the way.

What happens to my file?

It is uploaded to our server, processed there, and both the upload and the result are deleted automatically 60 minutes after the job started. Nothing is kept, nothing is used for anything else, and nobody looks at it.

What are the limits?

Files up to 500 MB and 3 hours long. One job runs at a time on the server, so at busy moments yours may wait a little.

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to install.
