Trim audio or video

Keep only the part between a start and an end time. The fast cut copies the original streams without re-encoding, so it takes seconds and keeps the quality exactly; it begins at the nearest keyframe before your start, which for video can be a second or two early. The exact cut re-encodes and starts where you said.

A fast cut of video starts at the nearest keyframe, and a fast cut of an OGG file can run up to about a second long. The exact cut is precise.

How it works

  1. Choose a file and enter the start and end times (as 1:05, 0:01:05.5 or plain seconds). Leave the end empty to run to the end of the file.
  2. Fast cut keeps the original format and quality. Exact cut re-encodes: audio to the same format, video to MP4 (limited to 10 minutes per cut).
  3. Download the cut. It is deleted after 60 minutes.

Questions

Why does the fast cut start early?

Video can only be cut without re-encoding at keyframes, which are typically every 1–10 seconds. The fast cut starts at the keyframe before your start time so no frame is broken. Most audio formats (MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC, Opus, WMA) have a frame every few milliseconds, so their fast cuts are precise too. OGG (Vorbis) is the exception: a fast cut can run up to about a second long, because a copy can only end where an Ogg page ends; choose the exact cut when the end must be precise.

Fast or exact?

Fast for a quick excerpt or when quality matters most. Exact when the start must land precisely, for example a clip for social media. A FLAC file is re-encoded losslessly even in a fast cut, so the new file states its true length; the audio is identical.

What happens to my file?

It is uploaded to our server, processed there, and both the upload and the result are deleted automatically 60 minutes after the job started. Nothing is kept, nothing is used for anything else, and nobody looks at it.

What are the limits?

Files up to 500 MB and 3 hours long. One job runs at a time on the server, so at busy moments yours may wait a little.

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to install.
